Create your account

Your OptoLink portal account is the identity you'll use for everything: managing links and domains, reading analytics, and calling the API. There is no separate OptoLink account system to configure: you register once at the portal, and that account is your API identity.

Signing up

Open the portal and choose Sign up. You can register with:

  • Email + password: enter your email, pick a password (a live strength meter guides you), and submit.
  • Google: one-click sign-up with your Google account.

Two things to expect on the way in:

  • Email verification. After you submit, you enter a verification code sent to your email address. Enter it once and you're in; if the code doesn't arrive, you can resend it.
  • Bot protection. Sign-up includes a quick human-verification check. It runs once at registration; everyday password sign-in is not challenged.

Signing in

Return to the portal any time and sign in with the same email + password, or with Google. If you mistype your password you'll get an inline error and can retry immediately; if we can't find an account for the email you entered, the card offers a sign-up link.

You stay signed in

Once signed in, the portal keeps you signed in (a managed session, roughly 7 days). Behind the scenes your browser holds a short-lived access token that is refreshed automatically and attached to every portal API call. You never see this token — it exists only inside the browser session.

:::note Humans vs. code use different credentials The browser session described here is for you. Code that calls the OptoLink API authenticates with API keys instead; see API keys. You never paste your session token into a script, and API keys never appear in your browser. :::

If your session has lapsed and you open a deep link (say, a link detail page from an email notification), the portal remembers where you were headed: you'll pass through the sign-in page and land exactly where the link pointed — not dumped on the dashboard. The restore only ever returns you to pages on the portal itself; external URLs in a redirect parameter are refused.

URLs worth knowing

  • /login and /register are real, bookmarkable paths.
  • Multi-step moments append a step segment, e.g. /login/factor-one (password step) or /register/verify-email-address (email verification). These are normal: bookmark one or land on one and the flow continues correctly.
  • There is no /sign-in path.

What the first screen looks like

The sign-in and sign-up pages carry the OptoLink wordmark and the product's own theming, not a generic third-party page. The portal defaults to dark mode; the sign-in card follows whichever theme you've picked in the app (toggle it any time from the header).

Next: the onboarding wizard

Right after your first sign-in, a short wizard sets up your organization, app config, and plan. Once you're in a team, the roles you can be assigned are covered in Team & roles.
